Impact on the Arts

The churches impact on the Arts has been monumental over the centuries.
Western music would not be as it is today if it weren't for the Christian church.

Even music notation came from the church (developed as a method of recording Georgian chants).  From the 10th century cathedral schools developed polyphonic music, extended later to as many as 40 voices (Tallis, Spem in Alium) and even 60 voices (Striggio, Missa Sopra Ecco).

From Handels Messiah (that tops the polls as the best expression of music in human history), to Gospel which gave so much to Western music.  There's so much influence that came out of Gospel, its incredible.
Many, many of the best artists began singing in church, from Elvis to Aretha to Whitney Houston etc etc.
